Position Purpose
The Activity Director is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operations of the Activities Department. This position ensures that a vibrant, ongoing program of activities is developed and maintained to meet the interests and individualized needs of each resident in accordance with their comprehensive assessment and plan of care. Work must comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies.
Job Requirements
- Education & Licensure:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must have or obtain a minimum credential as a Therapeutic Recreational Therapist within 9 months of hire.
- Must maintain an active Food Handler's Permit.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Experience:
- Prior activities experience preferred, especially in long-term care.
- Employment Requirements:
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Completion of new hire orientation and ongoing in-services/training required.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
- Fun, creative, enthusiastic personality with the ability to engage residents.
- Proficiency in English, written and verbal.
- Competent with computers and technology.

- Flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.

- Ability to work with geriatric, mentally ill, dementia, and disabled populations.

Principal Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and direct daily, weekly, and monthly activities for residents.
- Provide group and one-on-one activities, including for residents who do not attend group events.
- Coordinate with Administrator, nursing, and other departments to develop the monthly activity calendar.
- Oversee transportation arrangements for community outings.
- Ensure calendars are posted and distributed to residents monthly.
- Complete all required documentation, including assessments, MDS, progress notes, and activity attendance.
- Interview residents/representatives to determine activity preferences and goals.
- Collaborate with the activity consultant and implement recommended program improvements.
- Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers.
- Maintain partnerships with community groups, religious organizations, and local programs.
- Participate in meetings such as department head, Resident Care Conferences, QAPI, Psychotropic Committee, and Resident Council.
- Assist with resident shopping needs in coordination with the business office and resident advocate.
- Distribute mail and provide assistance with reading and writing upon request.
- Manage departmental budget, track spending, and submit receipts/documentation.
- Hire, train, supervise, and, when necessary, discipline Activities staff in coordination with Administration and HR.
- Maintain a current reference library of regulations and standards.
- Attend continuing education to maintain professional competency.
- Ensure activity areas and equipment are clean, safe, and well maintained.
- Order supplies and manage them responsibly.
- Provide training and in-services on activity-related topics to staff as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay: $ $25.00 per hour
