Our client, a top cancer hospital in Manhattan, is seeking a Long Term Temp Part-Time Room Service Associate. Position starts early October 2026 through August 2027. Schedule is Saturday and Sunday, shifts varying between1pm-9pm; 6am-2pm; 6:30am-2:30pm EST. 15 hours per week, onsite.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the delivery and collection of patient menus and meal trays for assigned floors.
  * Ensures patients receive appropriate trays, enteral feedings, nourishments, and snacks within established timeframes.
  * Maintains nourishment supplies in nursing unit pantries.
  * Provides room service information to patients.
  * Acts as a liaison between Clinical Dietitians and Nursing personnel.

Menu Distribution and Collection

• Distributes patient menus for meal service within established timeframes and collects menus when appropriate.
• Assists patients with menu selections.
• Distributes and collects Patient Satisfaction Surveys.
• Generates and prints all necessary reports, including Exception Files, Unit Round Sheets, and Missed Meal Reports.
• Uses the Exception File and Unit Round Sheet to ensure every listed patient receives a menu and verifies all menu information, including name, room number, identification number, and diet order.
• Takes corrective action by contacting the Diet Office or nursing station when information is incorrect or missing.
• Identifies late admissions and new patients who have not received menus and distributes menus at established times.
• Contacts patients who did not order a meal, identifies reasons for missed meals, and determines appropriate intervention according to departmental procedures.
• Assesses which meal ordering system is appropriate during a patient’s stay based on established criteria.
• Welcomes new patients and orients them to the Room Service Program, when applicable.
• Assists patients with meal selections and offers substitutions when standard menu options do not meet their preferences.
• Collects completed menus and sends them to the Diet Office or places meal orders when applicable.
• Records patients’ names, room numbers, and diet orders for all three meals when the automated Diet Office System is unavailable.
• Distributes Patient Satisfaction Surveys during the first and third week of each month, assists patients with completion when needed, collects surveys within 24 hours, and returns them to the Diet Office.

Tray Distribution and Collection

• Distributes and collects meal trays, nourishments, feedings, and snacks on assigned floors within established timeframes.
• Retrieves carts from the cargomaster within specified timeframes.
• Assembles hot and cold meal components, adds beverages, and ensures trays are properly prepared with correct settings, secure covers, and no spillage.
• Verifies tray accuracy by ensuring all items match the meal ticket and contacts the Diet Office regarding missing items when necessary.
• Confirms patient identification by verifying names on both the tray and room door prior to delivery.
• Ensures every patient scheduled to receive a tray receives one.
• Ensures patients under NPO orders are not served food.
• Consults nursing staff regarding missing patients before leaving the unit and arranges tray delivery for transferred patients as appropriate.
• Requests replacement trays from the Diet Office for missing items, dissatisfied patients, or special orders, and offers alternate choices within diet restrictions when applicable.
• Removes soiled trays, dishes, and silverware after meals and returns all items via cargomaster or service elevator.
• Collects payment from guests and staff following tray delivery when appropriate.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma
• Any amount of experience acceptable
• Ability to read, write, and understand basic instructions
• Basic computer skills

Compensation:

• $20/hr.
