Preconstruction Estimator – Design-Build Metal Buildings
Entry Level to Senior
Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Salary: $60,000–$80,000 annually, based on experience and demonstrated capability
About the Position
BC Steel Buildings is seeking a Preconstruction Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive quotations for design-build metal building projects.
We are open to candidates ranging from entry level to senior. Applicants with direct metal building estimating and Metal Building Software (MBS) experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Entry-level candidates may be considered if they possess strong construction knowledge, mathematical ability, attention to detail, and the aptitude to learn technical software.
The selected candidate may be hired as an Estimator I, Estimator II, or Senior Estimator based on experience and demonstrated capability.
Responsibilities
Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
Interpret dimensions, elevations, bay spacing, roof slope and pitch, and framed openings.
Understand metal building components, including frames, rafters, purlins, girts, bracing, roofing, wall panels, trim, and accessories.
Prepare material takeoffs, pricing calculations, proposals, and building quotations.
Use MBS or other estimating software based on experience level.
Identify missing information, scope discrepancies, exclusions, and project risks.
Coordinate with sales, engineering, drafting, project management, purchasing, and manufacturing.
Communicate with customers and internal teams to clarify project requirements.
Review vendor and subcontractor pricing.
Identify value-engineering opportunities.
Maintain accurate records while managing multiple estimates and deadlines.
Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and accuracy.
Qualifications
Working knowledge of construction terminology and building fundamentals.
Familiarity with purlins, girts, structural framing, roofing, wall systems, and roof slope and pitch.
Strong applied math skills, including fractions, decimals, measurements, conversions, percentages, area calculations, and basic geometry.
Ability to read construction drawings or demonstrate the aptitude to learn.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Office.
Ability to communicate effectively and work across departments.
Experience Levels
Estimator I – Entry Level
Construction, drafting, structural steel, roofing, building-material, manufacturing, technical-school, or relevant military experience is beneficial. Direct estimating or MBS experience is not required.
Estimator II
Relevant estimating or construction experience, the ability to review construction documents, and experience preparing takeoffs, pricing, or quotations are preferred.
Senior Estimator
Direct metal building estimating experience, MBS proficiency, and the ability to independently develop complete quotations for standard and complex projects are required. Knowledge of loading requirements, building codes, and specialty applications is preferred.
