Location: Kent Campus Hospital

Status: Full Time 80 Hours

SALARY RANGE: 29.05 - 45.03HOURLY

General Summary:

The surgical technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

Responsibilities:

1. Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure.
2. Coordinates the passing and management of multiple guide wires during endovascular procedures.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of use and dilution of angiogram dyes during endovascular procedures.
4. Performs appropriate handling of delicate prothetic valve implants and how to hand them to the surgeon.
5. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure.
6. Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure.
7. Holds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon.
8. Sponges or suctions the operative site.
9. Applies electrocautery to clamps or forceps on bleeders.
10. Cuts suture material as directed by the surgeon.
11. Coordinates the camera or changes out robotic arms/instruments during endoscopic surgery as directed by the surgeon.
12. Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
13. Performs additional counts as necessary.
14. Prepares sterile dressings and/or immobilization devices.
15. Prepares and passes off specimen(s) as appropriate.
16. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
17. Assists other members of the team with terminal cleaning of room.
18. Assists in prepping the OR for the next patient.
19. Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care
20. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

• Education: High School Diploma or GED

• Experience: Required: One year experience in operating room.
  

  Preferred: Experience in relevant specialty.
