What are the responsibilities and job description for the AUDIO VISUAL BROADCAST ENGINEER INSTRUCTOR Tenure-Track position at Bates Technical College?
The position will be non-tenured-Track though summer of 2026. The position becomes tenure-track beginning Fall 2026.
As per Article 7.1.3, of the Faculty CBA, full time faculty will be allowed a 7-day preference period. Essential Functions
• Use effective teaching techniques, instructional materials, and appropriate media support to conduct classroom lectures, course work, and laboratory projects to prepare students with the practical skills essential for entry-level employment.
• Develop and maintain full program curriculum documentation in accordance with the approved college format and ensure that instruction is consistent with current industry or business standards, technologies, procedures, equipment and materials
• Work closely with the engineering instructor(s) to provide technical and engineering support for remote and studio productions, including truck and flyaway kits, and onsite surveys, setup and operations
• Mentor, encourage, counsel and guide students toward the completion of program requirements i.e., course assignments, interpersonal relationships, career goals and responsible work habits
• Requisition and maintain control of and safeguard inventories of equipment and supplies assigned to the program
• Regularly monitor the program budget to ensure compliance with college budget procedures and parameters.
• Maintain records of all “shop job” instructional projects.
• Ensure that appropriate safety practices are always used, that students are knowledgeable of safety techniques, and that all equipment is maintained in a safe working condition.
• Maintain or coordinate the maintenance of computers, servers, software and equipment.
• In coordination with other instructors, develop and maintain an advisory committee that supports the program goals and objectives.
• Work with other instructors, support services staff, and the advisory board to ensure a cohesive learning environment dedicated to providing industry with qualified entry-level employees
• Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation, and/or ensure students are prepared for and can obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications.
• Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.

• Deliver classroom management to maintain a suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student conduct/problems and aid in solving them in accordance with college procedures.

Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention, completion, and progression.
Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support access to employment opportunities for students.
Accountable for keeping personal development up to date; adding skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting video production, or closely related field.
• At least 5 years' experience in broadcast video production, producing and directing.
• Knowledge of Video/audio system design, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Experience in broadcasting video control rooms and “live” broadcasting and streaming.
• Experience with remote and electronic field production setup and production
Allowable Substitution
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.
- Society of Broadcast Engineers certification: Certified Television Operator (CTO), Certified Broadcast Technologist (CBT), Certified Broadcast Network Technologist (CBNT), or higher.
- Teaching experience or industry experience in broadcasting and/or live broadcast production.
