Basics Fitness Center is greater Portland’s premier fitness center for older adults and individuals new to exercise. Our 13,000 square foot facility is equipped with a variety of specialized equipment to meet the needs of all levels of exercisers. We pride ourselves on providing a welcoming and comfortable environment for everyone at all physical levels. We work closely with the member and, as needed, with their medical providers or physical therapists to develop an individualized, safe and effective exercise program.
Job Summary: The front desk staff person is one of the most important positions at Basics. Front desk employees serve as the first point of contact with the members of our community, ensuring a welcoming environment. The position requires a positive, hardworking, reliable professional who is a true people-person. This individual must have the ability to work in a busy environment, have patience while multi-tasking, and possess strong communication and administrative skills to consistently execute on the details of the job that make our fitness program among the best.
Key Responsibilities
- Member Relations & Support: Greet members warmly, assist with check-ins, provide tours and assist members with fitness machine settings.
- Operational and Administrative Tasks : Answer phones, schedule appointments, manage membership sign-ups and renewals, process payments among other duties in Mindbody software. Assist and support personal trainers and other staff members. Complete shift checklist. Must be computer proficient.
- Facility Safety and Cleaning: Maintain a clean and sanitary environment in the locker room and throughout the fitness spaces. Ensure fitness equipment remains clean. Monitor the lobby and workout areas to ensure safety.
- Emergency Preparedness: Remain ready and willing to follow safety protocols and respond to medical or safety emergencies. First Aid/CPR/AED certifications required.
