JOB TITLE: Purchasing Specialist (236 Days) for the 2026-2027 School Year
LOCATION: Business Office - CO
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develops bid specifications and conducts competitive bidding
• Maintain the purchasing function to ensure that systems needs are met in a timely and cost-effective
manner
• Works with employees to ensure that purchased goods and services meet their needs
• Develops, documents, communicates, and administers the process for selecting goods and services to
purchase and vendors from which purchases are made
• Develops and supervises competitive bidding processes as needed to maximize the value received for funds
expended.
• Reviews all proposed purchases and equipment leases to ensure that purchases are cost effective and
consistent with budgets, contracts, laws, policies, regulations, and procedures
• Develops and maintains a level of familiarity with pricing, selling, and delivery policies, practices, and trends
of markets and vendors sufficient to enable the system to take maximum practical advantage of favorable
acquisition terms, which may not otherwise be recognized or realized
• Researches product and service specifications to identify performance related characteristics relevant to
system needs
• Assists management in providing requested information for annual financial and management audits
• Communicates with vendors as needed to expedite deliveries and resolve issues of product
serviceability
• Communicates in a timely and considerate manner with employees regarding the status of requests for
purchases
• Coordinates and administers the system facilities use policy
• Communicates effectively with members of the school system and community
• Conforms to all federal and state laws and regulations and to local School Board policies and system
procedures
• Maintains W-9 records
• Assists in preparation and processing of 1099s
• Maintains vendor records in accounting software, including additions and changes
• Follows federal and state laws as well as Bartow County Board of Education policies
• Maintains prompt and regular attendance
• Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Excellent interpersonal, written & oral communication and organizational skills required
• Strong computer skills required. Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel
• Minimum of two years of purchasing experience required; Experience in risk management preferred
• Governmental experience preferred; Supervisory experience preferred
• Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent
• CPPB and CPPO certifications preferred
