The Barren River District Health Department serves the residents and visitors of Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Simpson, and Warren counties of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Barren River District Health Department has an opening for a Health Environmentalist I Grade 17. The home base for this position will be at the Warren County Health Department, but will be expected to travel to the other district counties as needed after training is complete (Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Simpson or Warren).
Responsibilities:
- Perform all environmental health inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with regulations, to include food service, hotel/motel, mobile home/recreation vehicle park, public building plan review, tattoo studio, school, septic tank cleaning vehicle, septic tank cleaning disposal site, ear/body piercing studio, youth camp, tanning bed, lead, swimming pool, beach, private water sample, rabies control and onsite sewage disposal system program
- Investigates all nuisance complaints including mosquito control, bird, insect, and rodent
- Issues notice/release in the methamphetamine lab program
- Teaches Food Manager classes
- Responds to environmental emergencies such as food vehicle accident, food service establishment fire, flood or other natural disaster, water service emergency
- Provides information on mold as needed
- Interprets reports generated by the Environmental Health Management Information System (EHMIS).
- Travel will be required to other counties as needed after training is complete.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Requirements are a bachelor’s degree from a college or university with a minor or equivalent course work (24 semester hours) in environmental health, biological, or physical science or registration as a Kentucky Environmental Specialist/Sanitarian under KRS 223.
- Applicant must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
The minimum hourly wage is $20.30 per hour. Employees are under probationary period for 6 months. Once the probationary period is completed, the employee's salary will increase 5%.
