The Project Engineer will support the design and development of custom industrial equipment and systems from project requirements through manufacturing. This position will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Production, and Purchasing to develop complete mechanical designs, 3D models, fabrication drawings, and bills of material for engineered-to-order equipment.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, proficient with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, and comfortable designing piping systems, equipment skids, vessels, and mechanical assemblies for fabrication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D models and mechanical designs for custom industrial equipment and systems using Autodesk Inventor.
- Create and revise fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, general arrangement drawings, piping layouts, and equipment layouts.
- Develop and maintain P&IDs.
- Design equipment skids, piping systems, structural frames, supports, guards, and mechanical assemblies.
- Prepare and maintain bills of material (BOMs), part numbers, and drawing packages for purchasing and production.
- Review customer specifications, project requirements, vendor drawings, and equipment information
- Coordinate with Production and Purchasing to address fabrication questions, material availability, fit-up issues, and design improvements.
- Maintain accurate drawing revisions and engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support multiple active projects and prioritize design work based on project schedules.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor or comparable 3D mechanical design software.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and creation of 2D technical drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Understanding of mechanical design, fabrication methods, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, Production, and Purchasing.
- Engineering degree, or equivalent relevant mechanical design experience.
Preferred:
- Experience designing industrial equipment, process skids, piping systems, pressure vessels, or similar engineered equipment.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor assemblies, sheet metal, frame design, and drawing creation.
- Familiarity with pumps, valves, piping components, instrumentation, filtration, heating, and vacuum equipment.
- Experience developing fabrication drawings and BOMs for a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of welded fabrication, structural steel, piping practices, and equipment layout.
- Experience working in an engineered-to-order or custom equipment manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with ASME, ANSI, or other applicable mechanical design standards is a plus.
