The Electrical Engineer will support the design and development of electrical systems for custom industrial equipment from project requirements through manufacturing. This position will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Production, Purchasing, and Controls to develop complete electrical schematics, panel designs, component selections, and bills of material for engineered-to-order equipment.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically strong, proficient with AutoCAD Electrical or comparable software, and comfortable designing industrial power and control systems for fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and electrical designs for custom industrial equipment.
- Select and specify electrical components including disconnects, breakers, contactors, relays, transformers, power supplies, VFDs, motors, PLC I/O, and instrumentation.
- Prepare and maintain electrical bills of material (BOMs), part numbers, and drawing packages for purchasing and production.
- Review customer specifications, project requirements, vendor drawings, and equipment electrical information.
- Coordinate with Controls, Mechanical Engineering, Production, and Purchasing to address design, wiring, component, and fabrication questions.
- Support electrical assembly, system testing, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), troubleshooting, and commissioning activities as required.
- Maintain accurate drawing revisions and engineering documentation while supporting multiple active projects and schedules.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD, or comparable electrical design software.
- Ability to read, develop, and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Understanding of industrial electrical systems including 480 VAC, 240/120 VAC, 24 VDC controls, three-phase motors, and VFDs.
- Understanding of electrical component selection, conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, and industrial control panel design.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Electrical Engineering degree, Electrical Engineering Technology degree, or equivalent relevant industrial electrical design experience.
Preferred:
- Experience designing industrial equipment, process skids, machinery, control panels, or similar engineered equipment.
- Experience with PLC-controlled equipment, industrial instrumentation, remote I/O, and HMI systems.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, GE/Emerson, Schneider, Yaskawa, or similar industrial automation components.
- Experience supporting electrical assembly, equipment testing, troubleshooting, FATs, or field commissioning.
- Experience working in an engineered-to-order or custom equipment manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 79, UL 508A, or other applicable industrial electrical standards is a plus.
