Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Educational Leadership or a related field.
Experience in a secondary (middle/high school) administrative role.Knowledge of PBIS, Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH), and restorative practices.Experience with instructional coaching and professional learning communities (PLCs).Experience with MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support).Bilingual skills (preferred but not required).

The Assistant Principal serves as a key instructional and operational leader at Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy. This role supports the Principal in advancing academic achievement, strengthening instructional practices, and ensuring a safe, structured, and positive school culture. The Assistant Principal leads and supports systems related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, staff supervision, and student behavior, while promoting a relationship-centered environment grounded in PBIS, Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH), and restorative practices.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
Support the development, implementation, and alignment of curriculum to state standards.Promote high-quality instructional practices that meet the diverse needs of all learners.Analyze student performance data (formative, interim, and summative) to guide instructional decisions.Support assessment systems to ensure consistency, rigor, and alignment across content areas.Collaborate with teachers and instructional teams to improve student achievement outcomes.Monitor grading practices and academic expectations to ensure equity and consistency.
Teacher Supervision & Professional Growth
Supervise, evaluate, and support assigned staff in alignment with district and school expectations.Conduct regular classroom observations and provide actionable feedback to improve instruction.Support professional growth through coaching, mentoring, and targeted professional development.Assist in developing and facilitating staff professional learning aligned to school goals.Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention of high-quality staff.Foster a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented staff culture.
Student Culture, Behavior & PBIS Implementation
Lead and support schoolwide behavior systems aligned to PBIS.Ensure consistent and equitable implementation of student expectations and discipline.Use behavior and attendance data to identify trends and implement proactive interventions.Support Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior interventions through MTSS structures.Maintain a visible presence to support a safe and orderly school environment
Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) & Relationship Building
Model and promote CKH principles to strengthen relationships with students and staff.Support a positive school culture focused on respect, engagement, and belonging.Encourage staff to implement relationship-centered practices in classrooms.
Restorative Practices
Implement restorative approaches to discipline focused on accountability and growth.Support staff in using restorative strategies to address conflict and repair harm.Collaborate with counselors and staff to support student reintegration when needed.
Operations & School Management
Support daily school operations including supervision, scheduling, and logistics.Coordinate student supervision systems (arrival, dismissal, lunch, transitions).Assist with state testing coordination and school-wide initiatives.Ensure compliance with school policies, safety procedures, and legal requirements.Support emergency procedures, drills, and crisis response efforts.
Family & Community Engagement
Communicate effectively with families regarding academic progress, behavior, and school initiatives.
Support parent conferences, meetings, and school events.
Build strong partnerships with families and the community.
Communication & Compliance
Maintain accurate records related to student discipline, staff evaluation, and school operations.Ensure confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.Support compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
Other Duties
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal to support school success.
