What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Manager, E-Commerce Portfolio position at Bandana Capital?
Bandana Capital is a small portfolio company operating 2-3 direct-to-consumer e-commerce brands across distinct categories. We're looking for a General Manager to take full ownership of these brands - the closest thing to a founder role without the founder risk. You'll inherit live businesses with existing infrastructure, traffic, and revenue, and your job is to turn them into profitable, scalable operations.
This is a builder's seat. You'll wear every hat at the start - marketing, fulfillment, merchandising, customer service, P&L - with budget to hire 1-2 virtual assistants to offload repeatable work. Once the portfolio stabilizes, we'll invest in team expansion under your leadership.
Compensation: $95,000-$115,000 base salary performance bonus (up to 25% of base), tied to portfolio P&L.
What You'll Own:
Full P&L responsibility across all brands - revenue, contribution margin, cash flow, and unit economics.
Growth marketing - paid acquisition (Meta, Google), email/SMS lifecycle (Klaviyo), organic content, influencer/affiliate, and CRO.
Site and merchandising - Shopify storefronts, product pages, collections, pricing, promotions, theme updates.
Inventory and fulfillment - demand planning, purchase orders, 3PL relationships, shipping economics, returns, and customer service.
Brand strategy - positioning, messaging, creative direction, and long-term vision for each brand.
Team building - hire and manage VAs initially; scope and recruit full-time hires as revenue supports it.
Year 1 Success Looks Like:
Each brand operating at sustainable contribution margin.
Demonstrable revenue growth across the portfolio.
Clean ops: dialed-in inventory, predictable fulfillment, low CX volume.
A playbook and team structure that supports scaling beyond solo operation.
What You Bring:
5 years in e-commerce with hands-on ownership of growth and operations.
Demonstrated P&L ownership - accountable for hitting numbers, not just running channels.
Deep Shopify fluency - theme edits, app stack management, analytics.
Paid social/search proficiency - you've personally managed Meta and Google ad accounts at scale.
Klaviyo (or comparable) email/SMS experience - flows, segmentation, campaigns.
Inventory and 3PL operations experience.
Founder/operator mindset - comfortable in ambiguity, biased to action, scrappy with resources.
Experience managing multiple brands or a portfolio is preferred but not required.
Nice to Have:
Background in beauty, home/textiles, or specialty CPG categories.
Creative chops - design eye, copywriting instinct, willingness to direct creative.
Experience standing up AI/automation workflows (n8n, Claude, etc.).
