Position Summary
Summary
The DJC Steward maintains a clean, organized, and food-safe bakery environment — including both back of house (kitchen and prep areas) and front of house (shop and outdoor spaces).
This role is essential to ensuring Midtown Bakery meets cleanliness, safety, and presentation standards every day. The DJC Steward washes, sanitizes, and stores all bakery wares and equipment; maintains floors, drains, and restrooms; and assists staff as directed by supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, pots, pans, bowls, and small equipment using the 3-sink manual wash method.
Properly dry and store clean items in their designated locations.
Sweep and mop floors throughout the day.
Maintain cleanliness of the business exterior — including sidewalk, lawn, and parking areas.
Clean and sanitize dish racks (baking and drying), carts, sinks, drains, hoods, ovens, baker’s racks, proofers/heaters, stoves, and restrooms.
Remove indoor trash and place in the appropriate outdoor waste, recycle, or organic waste containers.
Set up and take down outdoor tables, chairs, signage, and fencing as needed.
Perform additional cleaning or support duties as assigned by supervisors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to understand, remember, and follow directions and cleaning procedures.
Hold and maintain a current, valid Food Handler’s Permit.
Demonstrate knowledge of the 3-sink dishwashing and sanitizing method.
Able to answer questions from a Health Inspector or employer regarding sanitation procedures.
Follow verbal and written instructions and ask for clarification when needed.
Lift and pour up to 25 pounds (e.g., transferring ingredients or waste).
Maintain excellent personal hygiene and professional appearance.
Comfortably work in a small kitchen or bakery environment with varying noise levels.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, gloves, aprons, and hair coverings when handling food.
No artificial nails, nail polish, or jewelry in food areas; necklaces and earrings require management approval.
