Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced 1st Class Shipfitter to join our team in Fourchon, LA. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in shipbuilding or marine fabrication, with the ability to read blueprints, fit structural components, and work safely in a fast-paced yard environment. This role offers steady work and company-provided housing for non-local employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders to determine material requirements and layout
- Fit, align, and assemble structural steel components for vessels and marine structures
- Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments accurately
- Tack weld parts in position or work closely with welders
- Perform layout work including marking reference points and cutting lines
- Ensure proper alignment and tolerances during assembly
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment
- Work effectively with supervisors, welders, and other trades
Must-Haves (Required Qualifications)
- 3 years of experience as a shipfitter or structural fitter
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Proficient with layout tools (tape, square, level, torch, etc.)
- Experience with tacking, fitting, and structural assembly
- Knowledge of shipyard safety practices
- Ability to pass a skills test and/or fitting assessment
- Physically able to lift 50 lbs, climb, bend, and work in confined spaces
Preferred Qualifications
- Shipyard or offshore fabrication experience (Gulf Coast experience a plus)
- Experience working with ABS or other marine standards
- NCCER certification (or equivalent)
- Experience with flame cutting and carbon arc gouging
- Prior experience working in Port Fourchon or similar environments
- TWIC card (or ability to obtain quickly)
