Registered Nurse First Assistant

Role: Performs an expanded perioperative role as a first assistant to surgeons during surgical procedures, providing direct patient care in the operating room. Collaborates with the surgical team, patients, and support persons to plan and deliver care, ensuring safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Delivers intraoperative patient care as a first assistant, conducting pre-operative assessments and communicating patient outcomes.
• Works with the surgical team to coordinate care, monitor patient responses, and modify plans accordingly.
• Administers medications per standards and manages individualized perioperative care plans.
• Participates in professional development, integrating current practices, research, and ethical standards.
• Provides patient and family education, advocates for perioperative safety, and demonstrates leadership in the clinical setting.
  
  

Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Nursing diploma or associate's degree; preferred bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Experience: 2-5 years in a related role; no supervisory experience required.
• Licenses & Certifications: Active RN license; preferred certifications include Certified First Assistant, CNOR, and Certified RN First Assistant.
