Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Low Voltage Technician (1099 Contractor) specializing in UPS systems, CCTV/security camera installations, and SmartHands field support. This role involves hands-on installation, troubleshooting, and on-site technical assistance for commercial and enterprise environments in the Irvine, CA area.
The ideal candidate is self-directed, dependable, and comfortable working under minimal supervision while following remote technical instructions (SmartHands model). This is a contractor role with flexible assignments based on project needs.
Key Responsibilities- Install, configure, and service CCTV/IP surveillance systems (cameras, NVRs, and related equipment)
- Perform installation and basic support for UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems and backup power equipment
- Provide SmartHands field support, including:
- Rack and stack of IT equipment (servers, switches, UPS units, NVRs)
- Cable management, labeling, dressing, and termination (Cat5e/Cat6/fiber as required)
- Physical rebooting, device verification, and on-site troubleshooting under remote guidance
- Assisting remote engineers with testing, diagnostics, and system validation
- Run, terminate, and test low-voltage cabling in commercial environments
- Mount and align CCTV cameras for proper coverage and performance
- Perform basic IP network tasks (connectivity checks, device verification, simple IP configuration)
- Troubleshoot issues related to power, network connectivity, and CCTV recording systems
- Follow site safety procedures and adhere to project installation standards
- Document completed work, site conditions, and any issues encountered
- Minimum 2 years of experience in low-voltage installations or CCTV/security systems
- Hands-on experience with CCTV/IP camera systems and UPS equipment
- Familiarity with structured cabling and termination practices
- Basic understanding of IP networking (IP addressing, device connectivity, troubleshooting)
- Ability to work independently as a 1099 contractor
- Strong troubleshooting and communication skills
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally within Orange County/Irvine area
- Ability to follow remote instructions in a SmartHands support environment
- Data center or enterprise field experience
- Knowledge of fiber optics termination/testing
- Familiarity with access control or integrated security systems
- OSHA 10/30 certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience working in MSP, telecom, or structured cabling environments
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in ceiling spaces
- Ability to work in commercial and industrial environments
- This is a 1099 independent contractor position
