Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) Engineer (Contract) – Space Exploration
Location: Los Angeles, CA (On-site)
Duration: 6-month contract (with potential for extension or conversion)
Our space exploration client is seeking a Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) Engineer to support on-site hardware integration and ground support equipment development. This role will focus on designing, building, and supporting MGSE used in the assembly, integration, and testing of complex space hardware systems.
This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced engineering environments and enjoys working closely with cross-functional teams to bring hardware from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site support for mechanical hardware integration activities
- Support the design and development of MGSE/GSE (Mechanical Ground Support Equipment)
- Assist with integration across multiple hardware elements and subsystems
- Help plan and execute integration and assembly activities
- Troubleshoot mechanical fit-up, interface, and integration issues
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and module owners
- Support Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), design updates, and configuration changes
- Assist with integration efforts across prototype, test, and production hardware
- Develop and support tooling, fixtures, and handling equipment for hardware builds
Required Qualifications
- Experience with mechanical assembly and integration of hardware systems
- Direct experience with MGSE/GSE design and development
- Strong troubleshooting skills related to mechanical fit-up and interface issues
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering teams and stakeholders
- Experience supporting ECNs, design updates, or configuration changes
- Hands-on experience with prototype, test, or production hardware environments
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Experience with integration planning and execution
- Proficiency with CAD-based mechanical design
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with assembly fixtures, handling equipment, and support tooling
- Experience supporting hardware builds in lab, test, or production environments
