IT Systems Engineer

Automotive Credit
Southfield, MI Full Time
POSTED ON 4/9/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/8/2026

Job Summary

The IT Systems Engineer is MAA's hands-on technical authority. This is a solo practitioner role, you own the full stack, from end-user support through server infrastructure. Day-to-day you will diagnose problems, assess options, and implement solutions without waiting for direction. Longer-term, you will lead the effort to retire legacy debt, standardize the environment, and build an infrastructure that can grow with the business. The right person for this role is comfortable context-switching between a help desk ticket in the morning and a firewall configuration in the afternoon.

Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Systems

  • Own the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of all server, network, and endpoint infrastructure.

  • Administer Windows Server environments including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and file services.

  • Manage virtualization platforms (VMware or Hyper-V); maintain uptime, snapshots, and capacity planning.

  • Configure and maintain firewalls, VPNs, switches, and wireless infrastructure.

  • Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions; own and test the recovery runbook.

Modernization & Tech Debt Reduction

  • Lead the migration and consolidation of on-premises systems to a rationalized, supportable architecture.

  • Manage the Microsoft 365 tenant: Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune, and Entra ID (Azure AD).

  • Standardize identity and access management; enforce MFA, conditional access, and least-privilege principles.

  • Assess and retire legacy systems; document what is replaced, why, and how.

Security & Compliance

  • Develop, document, and enforce security policies, patch management procedures, and access control standards.

  • Monitor the environment using SIEM, EDR, and vulnerability scanning tools; investigate and remediate findings.

  • Ensure all systems meet applicable compliance requirements relevant to financial services operations.

End-User Support

  • Serve as the primary — and sole — IT resource for all help desk needs, both on-site and remote.

  • Provision, image, and manage endpoints using Intune or equivalent MDM tooling.

  • Maintain IT asset inventory and lifecycle documentation.

Strategy & Collaboration

  • Participate in IT planning efforts; contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

  • Identify vendors, evaluate solutions, and manage procurement within scope of responsibility.

  • Communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders about project status, risks, and timelines.

  • Secondary job duties include other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a hands-on IT infrastructure or systems role.

  • Demonstrated experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and related Microsoft stack.

  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, firewall rules, VPN, DNS.

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration including Entra ID, Exchange Online, Intune, and SharePoint.

  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.

  • Experience with backup and DR solutions (Datto, Veeam, or equivalent).

  • Security-minded: experience with endpoint protection, patch management, and access control.

  • Strong documentation habits — you write things down so the next person (or future you) can follow.

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a small-company, low-overhead environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable interfacing with non-technical staff.
