Job Summary
The Social Communication Center in Abingdon is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and compassionate Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) to join our growing team. Our center specializes in providing speech and language services to toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-aged children (K–5) in a supportive, engaging, and child-centered environment.

In this role, you will work closely with licensed Speech-Language Pathologists to support the delivery of group and individualized speech and language therapy services. We are looking for someone who is passionate about helping children develop communication, social interaction, language, and early learning skills while building meaningful relationships with families and caregivers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed Speech-Language Pathologists in implementing individualized therapy plans for children ranging from toddlers through elementary school age.
  • Support children with speech, language, social communication, articulation, fluency, and pragmatic language needs through engaging, play-based activities.
  • Facilitate therapy sessions designed to promote communication, social interaction, language development, and school readiness skills.
  • Monitor and document client progress during sessions and communicate observations to supervising Speech-Language Pathologists.
  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, educators, and other professionals to support carryover of communication goals across settings.
  • Prepare therapy materials, activities, and equipment to create motivating and effective treatment sessions.
  • Maintain accurate records, progress notes, and documentation in compliance with applicable regulations and organizational policies.
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and encouraging environment that promotes each child's growth and success.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with toddlers, preschoolers, or school-aged children is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of pediatric speech and language development, social communication skills, and early childhood development is a plus.
  • Familiarity with early intervention services, school-based supports, and the IEP process is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with children and families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic approach to supporting children with diverse communication needs.
  • Current SLPA certification is preferred. Candidates working toward required credentials are encouraged to apply.
