Role Overview:
The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of meals in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This role requires adherence to food safety standards, efficient use of kitchen equipment, and the ability to handle multiple cooking tasks simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook food items including breakfast, lunch, and specialty dishes following recipes and safety standards
- Set up and operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, mixers, slicers, and steam units
- Monitor food during cooking to ensure proper temperature, timing, and quality
- Plate meals accurately based on ticket orders
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment and work areas
- Identify and report food quality issues or equipment malfunctions
- Assist with food prep, restocking, and transition between meal services
- Follow all food handling and safety procedures
Shift Responsibilities:
- 5:30 AM Shift:
- Open kitchen line for breakfast
- Prepare and plate breakfast orders
- Clean and restock for lunch
- Begin lunch prep and assist afternoon shift
- 7:00 AM Shift:
- Support breakfast service
- Prepare and plate breakfast and lunch orders
- Restock and assist with dinner prep
- Perform end-of-shift prep and cleanup
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of cooking experience in a hospital, cafeteria, or restaurant setting
- Experience in non-fast food environments preferred
- Ability to follow recipes and food safety guidelines
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Work Environment:
- Kitchen setting with exposure to heat, equipment, and food preparation areas
- Requires standing for extended periods and handling kitchen tools and equipment
