Position Summary
The HVAC Mechanic I / Building & Watch Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC systems and building automation systems within a facility environment. This role supports uninterrupted facility operations by maintaining air, water, heating, cooling, and mechanical systems while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and site standards.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical controls, refrigeration, plumbing, brazing, diagnostics, and mechanical repair. Experience supporting central plant heating and cooling systems is highly preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced student or graduate of an Applied Technologies HVAC program.
- EPA Refrigerant License or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to work rotating schedules supporting 24/7/365 facility operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in HVAC/R Technology or related field (completed or in progress).
- 1–3 years of commercial, industrial, or campus facility HVAC experience.
- EPA 608 Universal Certification.
- Experience with central plant cooling and heating systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform HVAC facility operations, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for commercial air, water, refrigeration, and building automation systems.
- Support operation and maintenance of central plant systems used for campus heating and cooling.
- Diagnose and repair HVAC equipment using appropriate testing tools and industry-standard practices.
- Perform electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, brazing, and mechanical maintenance activities.
- Conduct inspections of HVAC equipment and building systems to identify operational issues.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and equipment documentation.
- Utilize HVAC testing equipment and tools to evaluate system performance.
- Identify repair requirements and recommend corrective actions.
- Follow established HVAC trade practices, safety procedures, and site requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure work area.
- Support facility inspections, operations, and repair activities.
- Perform all assigned duties in compliance with company and customer safety standards.
- Participate in required 24/7/365 shift rotation schedule.
