Job Overview:
Hospital is seeking an experienced Financial Counselor to support families by helping navigate healthcare coverage, insurance resources, and financial assistance programs. This role plays an important part in reducing financial barriers to care and ensuring families receive guidance regarding payment options and government-sponsored healthcare programs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist uninsured and underinsured families with financial counseling and healthcare coverage options
• Help patients and families apply for government-sponsored healthcare programs including Medi-Cal and California Children’s Services (CCS)
• Support families with payment plans and patient account balance resolution options
• Review insurance eligibility, authorizations, and reimbursement resources
• Work collaboratively with departments including Social Work, Case Management, Revenue Cycle, and Physician Billing
• Maintain accurate patient financial documentation and account records
• Provide compassionate customer service while handling sensitive financial discussions
• Manage multiple tasks and patient cases in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
• Minimum 2 years of Financial Counseling experience in a healthcare setting
• Strong understanding of Medi-Cal and insurance authorization processes
• Excellent multitasking, communication, and customer service skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented healthcare environment
