About the Team

Our Land and Right-of-Way (ROW) team is a national leader in comprehensive land and ROW services supporting renewable energy, solar, and electric transmission projects. We take a seamless, multidisciplinary approach to delivering turnkey project solutions — spanning land acquisition, title abstracting, document preparation, permitting strategy, GIS services, and program management.

Job Description

Atwell is seeking an experienced 1099 Land Agent to support a solar energy project in Michigan. In this role, you'll serve as the primary liaison between Atwell and landowners in the project area — managing relationship building, negotiations, and the execution of land agreements from initiation through completion. You'll work closely with our Land Solutions team and report directly to the Land Solutions Project Manager.

• Identify and research landowner information through deed, plat book, and tax roll review
• Meet with and educate landowners on the solar project, its scope, and the development process
• Negotiate and execute options, leases, and easement agreements with accuracy and urgency
• Coordinate right-of-way strategy and execute with minimal oversight
• Ensure all agreements are executed with 100% accuracy, including tax forms, payment instructions, and supporting documentation
• Submit accurate weekly field notes, activity summaries, and project status updates to the Land Solutions Project Manager
• Proactively follow up with landowners and communicate progress, urgency, and execution timelines
• Submit invoices on a bi-monthly schedule with correct project and task numbers

Qualifications

• 5 years of land acquisition, right-of-way, or related real estate experience in solar, wind, oil & gas, telecommunications, or a similar industry
• Demonstrated ability to negotiate land agreements independently and overcome landowner objections
• Familiarity with deed research, plat books, tax rolls, and parcel ownership qualification
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable educating landowners on energy development processes
• Proven ability to work independently in the field, manage time effectively, and meet project milestones
• Notary license in Michigan, or willingness to obtain one; ability to locate notary resources when working outside of home state
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or equivalent field preferred
