What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Intelligence Developer position at Attractivate Consulting Solutions?
Here's a posting tailored for a BI Developer embedded in a managed app support program:
Business Intelligence Developer – Application Support Program Full-Time | Hybrid / Houston, TX
About the Role
We're looking for a Business Intelligence Developer to join a dedicated application support and delivery team embedded with enterprise clients. You'll own the design, development, and ongoing support of BI solutions — building reporting infrastructure that's trusted, performant, and genuinely used. This isn't a pure project role — you'll maintain what you build, respond to issues with ownership, and continuously identify opportunities to expand analytical value for the client.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models across enterprise client environments
- Support and troubleshoot existing BI solutions — diagnosing data discrepancies, performance issues, and broken pipelines with speed and ownership
- Build and maintain data models, DAX measures, and Power Query transformations aligned to business KPIs
- Collaborate with data engineers and application teams to ensure reliable data delivery from source systems to reporting layer
- Participate in requirements gathering with client stakeholders, translating business questions into analytical solutions
- Monitor and maintain report refresh schedules, gateway configurations, and workspace governance
- Contribute to sprint-based enhancement cycles alongside steady-state support responsibilities
- Proactively surface new reporting opportunities, automation candidates, and self-service enablement ideas that expand client value
- Maintain documentation for data models, report logic, and data dictionaries
What You Bring
- 3 years of hands-on Power BI development experience in a production environment
- Strong DAX and Power Query (M) skills — complex calculations, time intelligence, and performance optimization
- Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, star schema design, and semantic layer architecture
- Experience connecting Power BI to diverse data sources — SQL Server, Azure Synapse, Dataverse, SharePoint, REST APIs
- Familiarity with Power BI Service administration — workspaces, row-level security, deployment pipelines, and gateway management
- SQL proficiency for data validation, troubleshooting, and light transformation work
- Strong communication skills — able to translate technical constraints clearly for business stakeholders
- A support mindset — you take ownership of issues and don't consider something resolved until the client agrees
Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Direct Lake connections, or Power BI embedded analytics
- Familiarity with Azure Data Factory or Synapse pipelines as upstream data sources
- Exposure to Paginated Reports (SSRS/RDL) for operational reporting use cases
- PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) or DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer) certification
- Prior MSP, managed services, or multi-client delivery experience
- Experience in regulated or enterprise-scale environments (energy, finance, healthcare, or defense)
Why This Role
You'll have real ownership of the analytics layer for enterprise clients — not just building dashboards but ensuring they stay accurate, performant, and aligned to evolving business needs. If you're a BI developer who takes pride in the craft and wants client-facing impact beyond the sprint cycle, this is your kind of engagement.
