Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and tech-savvy Patient Accounting Representative for a high-priority, on-site backfill position in Hawaii. This role is responsible for processing insurance claims, medical disability billing, and collection activities. You will act as a primary representative to ensure maximum reimbursement while maintaining compliance with all state and federal regulations.
Top 3 Core Responsibilities
- Insurance Collections & Denials: Take ownership of delinquent accounts, research denials, and execute follow-up actions.
- Information Management: Review, audit, and process medical records and physician notes to ensure billing accuracy.
- Insurance Trend Reporting: Monitor and report on carrier trends to improve internal processing efficiency.
What You’ll Do
- Audit and summarize data from patient medical records and provider notes.
- Prepare invoices and service charge letters using CPT-4 and ICD-9 coding.
- Communicate daily with insurance carriers, doctors, and patients to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Maintain the HPMS computer system and a tickler system to monitor promised payments.
- Perform "skip tracing" on returned mail to update demographics for rebilling.
- Analyze delinquent accounts to determine collectability and prepare monthly write-off reports.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Residency: Must currently reside in the State of Hawaii (Firm requirement).
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: 1 year of experience in medical collections or insurance claims processing.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s Degree in a related field or Certified Medical Biller.
- Technical Knowledge: Experience with Epic and Change Healthcare systems.
- Industry Expertise: 2 years of healthcare collections experience; knowledge of medical terminology and 10-key by touch.

Pay: $20.45 - $24.83 per hour
