Head of Product Control – Valuation (Banking)
Position Overview
My client is seeking a senior finance leader to head Product Control and Valuation oversight within the Markets Finance function of a global banking organization. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of daily profit and loss reporting, independent price verification, and valuation control processes across trading and structured products. The position serves as a key control function between trading desks, risk, and finance leadership, with significant exposure to senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Product Control Leadership
- Lead the global Product Control function supporting trading and structured product businesses
- Oversee daily P&L reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and explanation of trading performance
- Act as the primary control point between front office trading desks and finance
Valuation Control & Governance
- Own independent price verification (IPV) processes across all trading portfolios
- Ensure robust valuation methodologies are applied consistently across asset classes
- Review and challenge trader marks, model outputs, and pricing inputs
- Oversee valuation adjustments, reserves, and fair value hierarchy classification
Risk & Financial Reporting
- Ensure accurate representation of market risk exposures and P&L attribution
- Partner with Market Risk to align valuation and risk measurement frameworks
- Support month-end and year-end close processes for trading businesses
- Review financial disclosures related to fair value assets and liabilities
Governance, Controls & Regulatory
- Maintain and enhance valuation governance frameworks and control standards
- Ensure compliance with regulatory expectations related to fair value measurement and market risk reporting
- Coordinate with internal audit, external auditors, and regulatory bodies on valuation-related matters
- Drive remediation of control findings and audit issues
Stakeholder Management
- Partner closely with Trading, Risk, Technology, and Finance leadership
- Provide valuation and P&L insight to senior management and business heads
- Act as escalation point for complex valuation disputes and pricing issues
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop a global Product Control and Valuation team across multiple asset classes and regions
- Build scalable processes to support new products and trading expansion
- Foster a strong control-oriented culture with high technical standards
Change & Transformation
- Lead initiatives to enhance valuation infrastructure, tooling, and automation
- Support implementation of new trading systems and valuation models
- Drive efficiency improvements in P&L production and valuation controls
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA, CFA, or CPA preferred)
- 10–15 years of experience in product control, valuation control, or market risk finance
- Strong background in investment banking, trading, or capital markets environments
- Deep understanding of valuation methodologies across multiple asset classes (rates, credit, equities, derivatives, etc.)
- Experience leading large, global teams in a control or finance function
- Strong knowledge of fair value accounting standards and regulatory expectations
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Salary : $250,000 - $450,000
