We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Controller to oversee the accounting and financial reporting for the management company of a publicly traded investment manager. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting the broader finance organization in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
This role will partner closely with FP&A, legal, tax, investor relations, and executive leadership, and will have visibility into the firm’s strategic and operational initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for the management company, including general ledger, month-end close, and financial statement preparation
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, including support for 10-K and 10-Q filings
- Manage and enhance the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
- Develop, document, and maintain robust internal controls in accordance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) requirements
- Partner with FP&A to analyze financial results, variances, and key business drivers
- Collaborate with tax teams on corporate tax provisions and compliance matters
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process
- Oversee accounting for management fees, incentive income, compensation (including equity-based compensation), and corporate expenses
- Support treasury and cash management activities, including forecasting and liquidity planning
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and system enhancements
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred
- 8–12 years of relevant experience, including public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and industry experience within asset management, private equity, hedge funds, or financial services
- Strong knowledge of management company accounting within an investment manager structure
- Experience with public company reporting and familiarity with SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q)
- Deep understanding of GAAP, SOX compliance, and internal controls frameworks
- Experience with equity compensation accounting (ASC 718) and complex revenue streams (management/incentive fees)
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop teams
- Strong systems experience (e.g., Workday, NetSuite, SAP, or similar ERP systems)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with senior stakeholders
Salary : $150,000 - $200,000
