A long-standing, successful CPG company in Suffolk County is seeking a Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to lead people strategy and hands-on HR operations for a multi-site, largely field-based workforce. The company runs a direct store-delivery operation across multiple facilities serving the greater New York metro region. This blended strategic and operational role sits on the executive leadership team. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable in the boardroom and on the warehouse floor. This role will sit on site in their Suffolk County office, Monday-Friday, with occasional travel (1-2x per month) to their other sites in NYC area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the President and executive team, translating business goals into workforce strategy and organizational design
- Direct high-volume recruiting and retention for CDL Class B drivers, merchandisers, warehouse associates, and sales professionals
- Resolve employee relations matters and coach leaders on performance management and consistent policy application
- Design and manage competitive compensation, benefits, payroll, and leave programs across hourly and salaried populations
- Ensure full compliance with federal, New York (State and City), and Connecticut employment law, including wage-and-hour, paid leave, FMLA, DOT, and OSHA
- Modernize HR systems (HRIS, payroll, applicant tracking) and maintain policies and the employee handbook across facilities
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
- 13 years of progressive HR leadership experience, including senior/executive roles
- Proven experience supporting an operational, multi-site workforce, ideally in distribution, logistics, CPG, food and beverage, or a comparable field-based environment
- Deep knowledge of federal, New York, and Connecticut employment law
- Track record of overseeing high-volume recruiting and retention for hourly and field roles
Preferred:
- Master's degree and/or SHRM-SCP / SPHR certification
- Experience with direct-store-delivery (DSD), fleet, warehouse, or transportation operations, including DOT and OSHA environments
- Experience in a family-owned or founder-led business
- Familiarity with modern HRIS/payroll platforms and HR analytics
- Experience in a non-union environment is preferred
Based on experience the base salary range is $200-$275k.
