Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility to promote independence and comfort
- Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates with accuracy and attention to detail
- Support medical staff by preparing patients for examinations or procedures, ensuring proper positioning and comfort
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and document all care provided accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Utilize specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts or other manual handling devices to ensure safe patient transfers and prevent injury
- Observe and report changes in patient condition promptly to nursing staff, including symptoms related to critical care or infectious disease concerns
- Follow aseptic techniques and infection control protocols diligently to maintain a safe environment for patients with complex needs such as dementia or post-acute care recovery
Skills
- Proven experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring memory or dementia care
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support (BLS) procedures including CPR and medication administration
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper techniques and equipment like Hoyer lifts or patient transfer methods
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare teams and provide compassionate caregiving
- Prior experience in long-term care facilities, hospitals (including ICU or trauma centers), assisted living communities, or home & community care environments is highly valued
- Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA compliance and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times
