Position Summary

We are currently recruiting for a Janitor to perform cleaning, custodial and simple maintenance work in a public building or state institution. This full-time position pays $20.40/hr, and is located in Lincoln, RI.

Due to this position being located within a school, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Clean (sweep, strip, dust, scrub, mop, wash or vacuum), polish or wax floors, walls, windows, woodwork, furniture and equipment in offices, halls, wards, staff quarters, dining rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, restrooms, operating rooms and laboratories.
• Clean plumbing fixtures.
• Collect and burn trash.
• Collect and dispose of garbage and other waste.
• Move, or assist in moving, furniture and equipment.
• To service water coolers and iceboxes.
• Spray, fumigate or otherwise exterminate vermin and rodents.
• Provide washrooms with soap, towels and other necessary supplies.
• Occasionally, to do minor repair work on buildings or equipment or to assist a maintenance man in such work.
• Run errands.
• Maintain watch over property and grounds.
• Clean sidewalks and perform manual labor in connection with lawn and garden maintenance.
• Occasionally, to operate passenger and freight elevators.
• To operate buffer and floor scrubbing machines.
• Duties are assigned individually in detail; work is closely supervised while in process and reviewed upon completion for overall efficiency and effectiveness.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
  
  

Required Skills/Abilities

• Working knowledge of the equipment and methods used in cleaning and custodial.
• Ability to understand and carry out simple verbal directions; and related capacities and abilities.
• Working effectively without supervision.
• Endurance for repetitive motions and long hours on their feet.
• Ability to multitask and be flexible.
• Highly motivated.
  
  

Education And Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Prior janitorial experience, required.
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing.
• Working hours M-F, 2:000pm-10:30pm.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 25-50 pounds.
• Must be able to pass a National BCI background if selected.
• At the time of appointment must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by physician's certificate.
