Position: Hope Center | Community Guide
Location: New Castle County Hope Center, 365 Airport Road, New Castle, DE 19720
Start Date: ASAP
Status: Full Time
Hours: 40 hours per week
Shift Details
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday
Shift Availability: Mid Shift – 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Shift Notes: Consistent schedule with occasional flexibility to support coverage on other shifts as needed.
Interview Process
Initial prescreen interview via Microsoft Teams.
Onsite interview with the client at The Hope Center for candidates selected to move forward.
Compensation
Hourly Rate: $18.00 per hour
Payment issued weekly via ATHENA’s timekeeping system (Paycom) through direct deposit.
Job Summary
The Community Guide provides on-site operational and client support at the New Castle County Hope Center. This role helps ensure continuity of care, safe shelter operations, and a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
Community Guides assist with client engagement, facility monitoring, administrative support, and coordination with program staff to support daily shelter operations.
Key Responsibilities
Building Entry & Admittance
Verify and facilitate entry for clients, staff, and visitors.
Food Delivery Coordination
Assist with retrieval, sorting, storage, setup, and distribution of food.
Donation Management
Oversee retrieval, sorting, storage, and distribution of donated items.
Volunteer Coordination
Support volunteer coordination, including tours and guidance.
Administrative Support
Perform administrative and operational support functions as needed.
Referral Intakes & Inspections
Assist with new referral intakes and conduct room move-in/move-out inspections.
Rent Readiness Program
Administer room inspections and provide client coaching.
Housing Locator Services
Act as a focal point for housing locator services and client support.
Other Support
Assist with additional Hope Center tasks as required.
Client & Safety Responsibilities
Monitor shelter residents to help ensure safety, rule compliance, and a respectful environment.
Provide appropriate assistance and support to clients as needed.
Maintain clear, professional communication with staff, supervisors, and clients.
Respond to incidents, concerns, or emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Shelter Operations & Facility Support
This role extends beyond client support. Community Guides actively assist in maintaining the facility, including:
Cleaning and maintaining common areas such as dining spaces and hallways.
Taking out trash and disposing of waste properly.
Ensuring hallways, entrances, and shared spaces are safe and free of debris.
Supporting general upkeep to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Reliability, Responsibility, and Team Support
The Hope Center operates 24/7; reliability is essential.
Employees must demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and dependability.
Willingness to assist with coverage, additional tasks, or shifting operational needs is required.
A team-oriented mindset is critical to ensure smooth shelter operations.
Monthly Operational Meetings
Employees are required to attend monthly operational meetings, which occur once per month and serve as an important operational information exchange for Hope Center staff.
These meetings are held virtually and may occur outside of regular working hours. Attendance is required, and employees will be compensated for their time participating in these meetings.
Attendance Expectations
Due to the 24/7 nature of Hope Center operations, reliable attendance is critical to maintaining safe shelter coverage. Employees are expected to report to their scheduled shifts on time and provide advance notice to supervisors in accordance with call-out procedures if they are unable to report to work.
Repeated tardiness, unexcused absences, or failure to follow call-out procedures may result in disciplinary action.
