This hands-on Human Resources Generalist role supports a fast-growing, multi-entity organization in a high-volume environment. With more than 40 open positions and a key team member going on leave, you will own day-to-day HR operations, with a strong focus on payroll, onboarding, and compliance. You will partner closely with HR leadership to keep operations running smoothly, support employees across multiple entities and payroll cycles, and help bring structure to a busy, rapidly evolving environment.
Responsibilities
This is a fully onsite role in a manufacturing environment. You will sit in an office building adjacent to the production site, with air conditioning and a practical, non-formal atmosphere rather than a traditional corporate setting. You will work as part of a close-knit HR team of five, including an HR director, this HR Generalist role, a team member going on leave, and two contract recruiters. The organization is experiencing rapid growth, with approximately 40 open positions and continued expansion across automotive, industrial, and related markets. The company invests heavily in its manufacturing facility and product innovation, including leadership in IoT and paint technologies. When converted to permanent employment, the organization offers a strong total rewards package that typically includes a competitive 401(k) match up to a defined percentage, multiple paid holidays including a floating holiday, and competitive health, dental, and vision benefits. Job Description

You will partner closely with HR leadership to keep operations running smoothly, support employees across multiple entities and payroll cycles, and help bring structure to a busy, rapidly evolving environment.
Responsibilities
- Process weekly and biweekly payroll across five entities using Paychex Flex.
- Audit payroll for accuracy, identify discrepancies, troubleshoot issues, and manage corrections in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate employee data within the HRIS and ensure compliance with reporting requirements, including time, sick time, and leave balances.
- Handle garnishments, unemployment claims, and employment verifications with professionalism and confidentiality.
- Support high-volume recruiting coordination, helping to schedule, track, and move candidates efficiently through the hiring process.
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes, including preparation and collection of new hire and termination documentation.
- Run checks and coordinate drug screens as part of the hiring process.
- Partner with hiring managers to move candidates quickly through the interview and selection process.
- Administer benefits enrollments, changes, and terminations, and coordinate with benefits vendors as needed.
- Respond to employee questions regarding payroll, benefits, and HR policies, providing clear and timely guidance.
- Manage FMLA and other leave of absence programs across multiple states, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws in a multi-state environment.
- Maintain HR files, I-9s, and other employment records in an organized and compliant manner.
- Support process improvements, including documenting and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Act as a reliable partner to HR leadership, especially during leave coverage, by operating independently and maintaining continuity of HR operations.
- Recent, hands-on experience with Paychex Flex payroll processing (non-negotiable).
- Proven experience processing multi-state payroll for at least 200 or more employees.
- Demonstrated success running high-volume payroll across multiple entities and frequent payroll cycles.
- At least 5 years of experience as a Human Resources Generalist with true, hands-on operational exposure.
- Experience managing FMLA and other leave of absence programs.
- Strong knowledge of multi-state employment laws and compliance requirements.
- Experience working in a fast-paced or high-growth environment with many open requisitions and constant change.
- Ability to step into a role quickly with minimal training and operate independently.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Proven problem-solving skills, especially in troubleshooting systems or process issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for partnering with employees, hiring managers, and vendors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
- Experience working in manufacturing, industrial, or multi-entity organizations.
- HR certification such as PHR or SHRM-CP.
- Experience with benefits invoice reconciliation.
- Exposure to HR system implementations or transitions.
- Experience creating, refining, and documenting processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

- Experience with employee relations in an operational or manufacturing setting.
