Job Title: Employee Relations Specialist

Job Description

The Employee Relations Specialist will serve as a trusted partner on a construction job site, fostering positive relationships between employees and management. This role focuses on resolving workplace issues, supporting supervisors with HR-related processes, and enhancing the overall employee experience through proactive engagement, coaching, and compliance with labor laws and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between employees and management to support open communication and build trust.
  • Investigate employee complaints, provide counseling, and work toward effective conflict resolution while keeping supervisors informed.
  • Recommend corrective actions and support supervisors throughout disciplinary processes and employee separations.
  • Regularly walk project sites to interact with employees, answer questions, address concerns, and assess the work environment.
  • Identify issues that should be escalated to corporate HR and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Stay abreast of labor laws and advise supervisors on their application to day-to-day operations.
  • Clarify company policies and procedures to employees and supervisors, ensuring consistent understanding and application.
  • Coach supervisors on compliance with HR-related policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate the annual performance review process in conjunction with corporate HR.
  • Participate in face-to-face performance evaluations when practical to support constructive feedback and development.
  • Arrange training for employees and supervisors as needed to address performance, compliance, or development needs.
  • Be familiar with and facilitate new hire orientation to ensure a smooth onboarding experience.
  • Listen and respond to employee inquiries about benefits throughout the year and during open enrollment.
  • Ensure labor law posters and other required company postings are up to date and clearly visible on site.
  • Conduct exit interviews to determine root causes for voluntary terminations and document key findings.
  • Suggest and implement retention strategies based on feedback and trends observed on site.
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to continually improve the employee experience.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data entry related to employee relations activities and HR processes.

Essential Skills

  • 2 years of relevant experience in employee relations or a related field, preferably in the construction or engineering industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or 8 years of experience with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working in human resources and employee relations, including counseling and conflict resolution.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to respond effectively to employee and supervisor inquiries.
  • Proficiency in data entry and administrative support tasks.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Proficiency using a personal computer, tablet, and smartphone, including applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as required.
  • Knowledge of FMLA and other relevant labor laws and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively on a construction job site and adapt to a dynamic field environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in onboarding processes, including facilitating new hire orientation.
  • Experience in administrative support within an HR or employee relations setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport across diverse teams.
  • Ability to coach supervisors and provide guidance on HR-related policies and procedures.
  • Experience arranging and coordinating training for employees and supervisors.
  • Capability to analyze exit interview data and recommend retention strategies.
  • Attention to detail in maintaining compliance-related postings and documentation.
  • Bilingual communication skills that support effective engagement with a diverse workforce.

Work Environment

This position is based on a construction job site and requires regular on-site presence Monday through Friday, with some flexibility. Typical construction hours range approximately from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and the role involves walking project sites, interacting with field and office personnel, and working in an active construction environment. The Employee Relations Specialist will use computers, tablets, and smartphones to access and manage HR-related applications and communication tools. Travel of about 25% may be required to support multiple project locations and corporate HR collaboration.e

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rayville, LA.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $44.00/hr.
