What are the responsibilities and job description for the Med Staff Credentialing position at Astera Health?
Essential Duties:
- Supports the mission of Astera Health through personal conduct and behaviors that contribute ideas and suggestions, is helpful and friendly, demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality, and adheres to organizational policies and rules.
- Be a role model of Astera Health culture and core values.
- Processes applications in a timely fashion, analyzes data, identifies red flags and items requiring further review/additional information.
- Maintains credentialing files in an orderly fashion.
- Maintains database for current status for licensure, DEA registration, certifications, and professional liability insurance for all privileged providers.
- Conducts thorough background investigation, research, and primary source verification of all components of the application file.
- Works collaboratively with other department managers, advanced practice providers and practitioners in the credentialing process.
- Responds to data requests.
- Utilizes resources effectively.
- Recommends and initiates ideas for process improvement.
- Accepts other duties as assigned.
- Appropriately interprets Joint Commission, CMS and other regulatory standards and applies this information to the credentialing and privileging process.
- Become a member of NAMSS (National Association of Medical Staff Services) and maintain good standing.
- Complete annual education requirements.

Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma with five years’ experience in the health care environment.
- CPCS or RHIT certification; or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire.
- Or combined years of relevant education and experience to perform the essential duties of this position.
Physical Requirements:
Sedentary Duty: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body (based on U.S. Department of Labor data). The following physical activities are required to perform this job:
Occasionally (up to 33% of work time): Standing, walking, reaching, lifting.
Frequently (34-66% of work time): Sitting, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, near acuity vision.
