Job Summary
We are seeking energetic and vigilant Lifeguards to ensure the safety and well-being of our community members at our pools and aquatic facilities through Labor Day Weekend!. As a Lifeguard, you will be the first line of defense in preventing accidents, responding swiftly to emergencies, and maintaining a secure environment for all swimmers and visitors. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a lively community while honing your safety skills.

• Must be available to work through Labor Day weekend (including weekends and holidays)
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
• Strong swimming skills
• Must be at least 15 years old
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Reliable and punctual
• Positive attitude and team-player

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To observe and supervise the activities of swimmers in and around the pool and beach areas

PRIMARY DUTIES:

· Enforce all facility policies, rules and regulations.

· Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies.

· Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and reports unsafe conditions and equipment to supervisor.

· Complete records and reports.

· Maintain an attitude of alertness at all times.

· Participate in in-service training.

· Perform all necessary maintenance of pools, beaches, and their adjacent/existing bath houses/restroom areas as directed. This Includes but is not limited to: raking the beach, maintaining beach safety by identifying and filling hazardous holes and uneven sand areas, and ensuring garbage is picked up daily. All Aquatic areas must be cleaned immediately following each operating day.

· Report all severe accidents requiring emergency and/or First Aid treatment to Public Safety. Document all rescue attempts, unusual incidents and incidents of vandalism and notify the Aquatics Coordinator and/or Recreation Manager.

· Activate the EAP and communicate with other lifeguards or other Aquatic personnel if additional assistance or equipment is needed in the event of an emergency.

· Maintain possession of a rescue tube, resuscitation mask and a whistle at all times when performing Lifeguarding duties.

· Proper identification must be worn at all times (Lifeguard uniform). Lifeguard uniform may not be worn when off duty.

· Perform additional duties as required

EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

· Complete all timecards and return to the Aquatics Office no later than the end of the shift each Thursday.

• PREVENT PATRONS AND FRIENDS FROM CONGREGATING NEAR OR AROUND GUARD POSITION
• Direct questions to the Recreation Office.

· Complete opening and closing procedures when applicable.

· Individual must be American Red Cross certified in the following areas:

Ø Lifeguard Training,

Ø Waterfront Lifeguarding,

Ø CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Ø Standard First Aid.

· Must be able to maintain an attitude of alertness at all times.

· Must have a thorough knowledge of all Hideout Rules & Regulations.

· Must be experienced in the daily supervision of a public pool.

· Must be able to work cooperatively with staff and guests.

· Must be in full uniform at all times.

· Must have the ability to work in all areas of the Aquatics Department as necessary.

· Must be available to work from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes and/or loud noises.
• Work is performed primarily outdoors in a swimming pool environment; frequent exposure to pool chemicals, water and outdoor weather conditions;
• Work requires constant to frequent use of the full range of visual and depth perception; frequent demand for climbing, balancing, bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and eye-hand coordination; hearing must be within normal range.
• Moderate physical activity. Requires occasional handling and maneuvering of persons in excess of 100 pounds.

SAFETY HAZARDS:

• Employee may be exposed to chemicals used in the swimming pool facilities, and may also be exposed to bodily fluids while performing rescues.
• Slips, trips or falls.
• The employee is frequently required to climb or balance.
• The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
