Position Overview
Under the direction of the Feed Mill Manager, the Assistant Mill Manager supports all aspects of feed mill operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and is eager to grow into a leadership position.
Key Responsibilities
Safely operate and maintain the batching system; serve as backup to the Mill Manager when needed
Operate and maintain pellet mill equipment following proper training procedures
Produce high-quality feed while monitoring production and quality standards
Prepare feed orders for delivery, including bagging, loading trucks, and occasional routing assistance
Receive and manage bulk and bagged ingredients while maintaining accurate inventory counts
Perform and document preventative maintenance tasks (daily, weekly, monthly), including:
Greasing bearings
Checking gearboxes
Inspecting and tightening belts
Maintain cleanliness of the mill and surrounding grounds
Assist with repairs and coordinate with contractors as needed
Follow all company safety policies and OSHA standards
Provide professional and courteous customer service to patrons, customers, and team members
Support additional operational tasks as needed
Qualifications
Ability to read, write, and speak English
Strong dependability, problem-solving skills, and ability to make quick decisions
Customer-focused mindset with a positive, professional attitude
Basic math and computer skills
Valid driver’s license required
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., climb ladders, stairs, and bins as needed
Comfortable working in grain, dust, and varying Nebraska weather conditions
Willingness to work extended hours as business demands require
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
Preferred (but not required):
Experience in feed mills, grain handling, agriculture, or elevator operations
Background in batching or pelleting
Experience operating forklifts, loaders, conveyors, tractors, or similar equipment
