POSITION OVERVIEW

ABC of Wisconsin is seeking a highly skilled licensed trade professional to serve as an instructor for our construction electrician apprenticeship training program. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality instruction that prepares apprentices for a successful career in the electrical trade.

If you have the technical knowledge and experience, we can help you develop your teaching skills. 

The instructor will provide classroom and hands-on lab instruction, helping apprentices develop the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies needed to succeed in the commercial construction industry. The ideal candidate is an experienced industry professional who is passionate about workforce development and committed to supporting the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

The position will teach apprenticeship classes during the day and potentially some evenings. The position will have instructional responsibilities from August – May. Daytime classes are typically held from 7:00 – 3:30.

Full-Time: A typical workload for a full-time instructor includes approximately 24 hours of classroom instruction per week. This may consist of three daytime classes or a combination of daytime and evening classes totaling 24 instructional hours. The remainder of the workweek is dedicated to lesson planning, lab preparation, grading, responding to student questions, curriculum development, and other instructional responsibilities. Following the initial onboarding and training period, instructors may have the flexibility to complete preparation and administrative work remotely on days they are not scheduled to teach.

Part-Time: Part-time instructor schedules are flexible and built around each instructor's availability during the school year. Teaching opportunities are available during both the day and evening. Whether you are available to teach one day (or evening) every other week or up to two days per week, we welcome the opportunity to discuss a schedule that fits your availability while meeting our students' needs.

Instructors enjoy an academic-year schedule, with no scheduled classes and limited responsibilities during June and July.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction & Student Development

• Deliver classroom and hands-on lab instruction to registered apprentices.
• Teach trade theory, code requirements, safety practices, and industry best practices.
• Utilize varied instructional strategies to support diverse adult learning styles.
• Assess student performance through testing, practical evaluations, and assignments.
• Provide feedback, mentorship, and support to help apprentices progress successfully through the program.

Curriculum & Program Support

• Maintain accurate training records, attendance, and evaluation documentation.
• Assist in preparing instructional materials and maintaining training resources.

Learning Environment & Safety

• Foster a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment.
• Maintain lab/shop safety standards and ensure apprentices follow proper safety protocols.
• Assist with maintaining training equipment, tools, and lab materials.

Industry Engagement

• Participate in advisory committees, training events, and industry engagement opportunities and ABC events as needed.
• Support efforts to promote apprenticeship training and workforce development within the skilled trades community.

Required Qualifications

• Current State of Wisconsin Journeyman Electrical License
• A minimum of 7 years of electrical experience
• A strong interest in teaching and mentoring apprentices.
• Strong knowledge of industry standards, safety practices, and electrical code.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current State of Wisconsin Master Electrical License
• Teaching or training experience
• Experience working with adult learners in apprenticeship or workforce development programs.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Work Environment

This position operates in both classroom and lab/shop environments and may involve exposure to varying shop conditions. Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds and demonstrate safe use of tools and training equipment.

Work Location

This position is based at our training center in Madison, Wisconsin, where all classroom instruction is delivered in person. After successfully completing the initial onboarding and training period, instructors may have the flexibility to complete lesson preparation, grading, and other administrative responsibilities remotely on non-teaching days.
