Mechanical Inspector
Location: Arlington, VA
Position Type: Contract-to-Hire
Our client is seeking a highly qualified Mechanical Inspector for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Arlington, VA. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong experience inspecting complex mechanical systems—particularly within hospital, laboratory, and clean room environments. The Mechanical Inspector will play a critical role in ensuring mechanical construction activities comply with contract documents, federal requirements, and industry standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Inspect mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, for compliance with contract requirements, codes, and industry standards

Perform inspections on hospital, laboratory, and clean room mechanical systems

Review contractor shop drawings, submittals, and product data to verify conformance with project specifications

Monitor installation, testing, and commissioning activities to confirm proper functionality and performance

Witness and document critical tests such as pressure tests, leak tests, and system start-ups
-
Identify, document, and report non-conformances; coordinate with contractors and engineers to implement corrective actions

Oversee corrective actions for unacceptable construction work and support final inspections, punch lists, and project closeout activities

Conduct labor interviews to verify worker classification and wage compliance
-
Immediately notify contractors and appropriate officials of any potentially life-threatening safety conditions

Verify the quality of materials, workmanship, and equipment installations
-
Maintain accurate and detailed inspection reports, logs, and quality control documentation

Bachelor's degree in Construction, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field plus relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Experience performing mechanical inspections on construction projects

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Minimum of 2 years of experience with hospital, laboratory, or clean room mechanical systems

Experience working on federally managed construction projects

Experience reviewing contractor shop drawings and submittals

Experience working in and around historic properties

OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety Certification

Familiarity with federal project management and reporting systems
