Industrial HVAC/R Systems Technician -- BAS, Chillers & Boilers

You start by reviewing your CMMS work orders and walking the floor. A rooftop unit gets a filter change and coil cleaning; a chiller’s performance trend reveals a need for refrigerant checks; a boiler inspection confirms it’s operating within spec. Midday, you trace an intermittent fault through a contactor and relay, confirm it with a wiring diagram, and swap a motor. Later, you tune a VFD in the BAS, log your work, and leave the system running more efficiently than you found it.

• Install, service, and troubleshoot HVAC systems such as rooftop units, air handlers, chillers, boilers, and air distribution equipment in line with codes and specifications.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues; replace components like compressors, motors, fans, and controls; perform brazing; execute refrigerant recovery and charging.
• Run a plant-wide preventive maintenance program: scheduled inspections, filter changes, lubrication, refrigerant level verification, coil cleaning, and performance monitoring.
• Maintain precise records in the CMMS and verify systems operate within manufacturer parameters.
• Isolate faults in motors, contactors, relays, and power distribution (120V–480V) using electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Install and work with building automation and digital control systems, including thermostats, VFDs, and control panels.
• Service refrigeration assets (walk-in coolers, freezers, and process cooling) while following EPA rules for handling, recovery, and recycling of refrigerants.
• Evaluate asset condition, recommend repair/replace and energy-efficiency improvements, order parts, and keep inventory organized.
• Champion safety and compliance: OSHA rules, lockout/tagout, EPA Section 608 requirements, and proper PPE use.
• Interpret technical documents—electrical schematics, sequences of operation, and equipment specs—to troubleshoot and complete installs.

• EPA Section 608 Universal certification (refrigerant license) — required.
• 3–5 years of HVAC experience in commercial or industrial environments.
• Strong electro-mechanical aptitude and a track record of root-cause troubleshooting.
• Safe, competent use of hand tools and test instruments.
• Knowledge of power distribution, lighting, control systems, and related electrical equipment.
• Ability to determine causes of electrical failures within HVAC systems.
• Valid driver’s license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Self-directed with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

• 3–5 years of industrial electrical experience.
• State HVAC contractor license or journeyman credential.
• BAS experience with platforms such as Trane, Carrier, Johnson Controls, or Honeywell.
• Boiler operator license.
• Electrical journeyman or master license.
• Experience in manufacturing or warehouse settings.
• Forklift and aerial lift certifications.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
• NATE certification.
