Position Summary
Ashe County Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Through affordable housing initiatives, critical home repairs, and the Habitat ReStore, we work alongside families and community partners to improve lives throughout Ashe County. The Executive Director is accountable for the overall day-to-day operations, leadership, and performance of Ashe County Habitat for Humanity and the Habitat ReStore is a major component. This position ensures efficient store operations, strong customer and donor relations, volunteer engagement, and revenue growth to support the mission of Ashe County Habitat for Humanity. The Executive Director supervises ReStore staff and volunteers and works closely with the Board of Directors to improve organizational effectiveness and community impact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ReStore Operations & Revenue Management
- Oversees all daily operations of the Habitat ReStore.
- Ensures the efficient receipt, collection, processing, display, pricing, and sale of donated goods including furniture, appliances, building materials, and household items.
- Maintains a clean, safe, organized, and customer-friendly retail environment.
- Maximizes ReStore profitability and operational efficiency in support of the organization’s mission.
- Oversees donated merchandise for quality, usability, and pricing.
- Coordination with Construction Supervisor on a regular basis to provide overall project management.
- Monitors inventory flow and sales trends to improve revenue generation.
- Coordinates with the Resource Development Committee including donor development, funding applications, proposal writing, grant management, and activities with NC Habitat for Humanity and Habitat for Humanity International.
Staff & Volunteer Leadership
- Supervises ReStore employees, drivers, and volunteers.
- Develops staffing plans to ensure adequate operational coverage.
- Recruits, trains, motivates, and retains volunteers and staff.
- Provides coaching, accountability, encouragement, and problem-solving support.
- Ensures compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Oversees accurate tracking and reporting of sales, donations, sales tax, time records, and operational expenses.
- Works collaboratively with the Operations Manager on administrative systems and reporting functions.
- Maintains donor and customer relationships and supports donor stewardship efforts.
- Accountable for the effective coordination of donation pickups and delivery schedules or delegates appropriately.
- Assists with operational planning, process improvements, and strategic growth initiatives.
Executive & Organizational Support
- Provides operational input for budgeting, planning, and policy development.
- Participates in fundraising activities, public outreach, and community events as needed.
- Attends monthly Board meetings in person.
- Prepares monthly operational reports in collaboration with the Operations Manager for the Board of Directors, highlighting accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience with employees and volunteers.
- Ability to assess donated merchandise and determine appropriate pricing.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with employees, volunteers, donors, and customers.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic familiarity with social media platforms.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in retail management or operations management.
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization.
- Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, inventory management, or marketing.
- Spanish speaking skills.
- Some college education.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and remain physically active for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in a warehouse and retail environment.
Other Requirements
- Flexibility to work Saturdays and special events.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Criminal background check and drug screening is required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range between $50-60K depending on qualifications and experience.
- Five paid holidays annually.
