About Ascension St. John Sportsplex
Ascension St. John Sportsplex is Tulsa’s premier multi-sport and event destination featuring 8 hard courts, 2 indoor turf fields, and 10 outdoor grass soccer fields. As the official training complex for FC Tulsa, the Sportsplex is a year-round hub for youth and adult sports, tournaments, and community programs.
This internship provides hands-on exposure to large-scale sports facility operations, groundskeeping, and maintenance management within a professional athletic environment. Interns will work closely with the Sports Facilities Director and operations staff to learn best practices in facility upkeep, safety, and project coordination.
Internship Summary
The Sports Facilities & Operations Intern assists with day-to-day facility operations, groundskeeping support, and maintenance coordination across the Sportsplex campus. This role is designed as an educational experience, allowing interns to observe and participate in facility management processes while gaining real-world exposure to sports complex operations.
This internship also serves as an evaluation opportunity. Interns who demonstrate strong work ethic, reliability, and growth may be considered for future paid roles as they become available.
Key Responsibilities
Facility & Grounds Support
- Assist with monitoring the condition of indoor courts, turf fields, and outdoor grass fields.
- Support field preparation and breakdown for practices, games, and tournaments.
- Observe and assist with weather-related field readiness and recovery procedures.
- Help ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and event-ready.
Maintenance & Operations Exposure
- Shadow maintenance staff during preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
- Assist with basic maintenance activities such as inspections, inventory checks, and equipment organization.
- Learn how work orders are logged, tracked, and documented.
- Support small facility improvement projects under supervision.
Project & Administrative Support
- Assist with documentation related to maintenance schedules, inspections, and projects.
- Observe coordination with vendors and contractors.
- Help track supplies, tools, and operational resources.
- Support operational planning related to event calendars and facility usage.
Professional Development
- Learn industry standards for sports facility safety and compliance.
- Develop organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Gain exposure to leadership and decision-making processes in facility management.

Requirements
- Current student or recent graduate in Sports Management, Facility Management, Turf Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Interest in sports facilities, operations, or infrastructure management.
- Willingness to learn and work in a hands-on environment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 25–50 lbs.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to work evenings or weekends as needed based on event schedules.
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance.
Compensation
This is an unpaid internship intended for educational and experiential learning purposes. Academic credit may be available if coordinated through the intern’s educational institution.
