Ascension Global Staffing & Executive Search is seeking a Litigation Associate for a full-time, on-site opportunity in Coral Gables, Florida. This role is ideal for a driven attorney with experience in civil defense litigation, particularly medical malpractice, who is looking to join a collaborative and fast-paced legal environment.
Position Overview
The Litigation Associate will be responsible for managing a caseload of medical malpractice defense matters from inception through trial. The role involves active courtroom participation, client interaction, and close collaboration with partners and legal staff to deliver high-quality legal representation.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle medical malpractice litigation matters and other civil defense cases
- Represent clients in all phases of litigation and legal proceedings
- Provide strategic legal counsel and case assessments
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft well-supported legal arguments
- Prepare, draft, and review pleadings, motions, discovery, and other legal documents
- Take and defend depositions of parties, experts, and witnesses
- Attend court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
- Engage in settlement negotiations and case strategy discussions
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, expert witnesses, and court personnel
- Collaborate closely with attorneys and legal professionals across the firm
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar
- Strong understanding of civil defense litigation, preferably medical malpractice
- Experience drafting motions, pleadings, and other litigation documents
- Demonstrated ability to conduct and defend depositions
- Familiarity with Florida court procedures and trial practice
- Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach
- Prior litigation experience strongly preferred
Preferred Experience
- Medical malpractice defense experience
- Prior trial or second-chair trial experience
- Experience working in a fast-paced litigation firm environment
