Senior Accountant
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of the organization's financial operations. Reporting to the Finance Director (or designated finance leader), this role oversees key accounting functions, payroll administration, financial reporting, and month-end and year-end close activities while providing leadership and support to members of the accounting team.
This position is well suited for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys balancing strategic financial oversight with hands-on accounting responsibilities and continuously improving processes, controls, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations to ensure accurate financial reporting, operational efficiency, and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Supervise, mentor, and support accounting team members, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
- Process and administer bi-weekly payroll while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, fixed asset schedules, and supporting financial documentation.
- Lead and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Monitor accounts receivable activities, including aging reports, collections, customer credit, and cash application.
- Serve as backup for accounts payable, invoicing, and cash receipts processing as needed.
- Support annual financial audits, insurance reporting, and other regulatory or compliance requirements.
- Maintain payroll records, employee data, and payroll system information.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and increase operational efficiency.
- Provide responsive, professional support to employees, customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Several years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
- Experience with payroll administration, ERP systems, and accounting software.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach.
