Title: Software Development Engineer in Test
Location: Redmond, WA

Typical Day in the Role

• Purpose of the Team:The purpose of this team is to support a confidential
• device project by ensuring software quality and stability during the internal self-host program.
• Key projects:This role will contribute to writing and maintaining automated test suites, managing test devices, and ensuring software quality by preventing defects before release.

Candidate Requirements

• Disqualifiers:Candidates without software engineering or test automation experience would be disqualified, as this is a core requirement for the role.
• Best vs. Average: The ideal resume would contain experience with Android (mobile OS), 5-7 years minimum is required for the role but more experience be a bonus, should be able to work independently

Summary

• We are seeking a Senior Test Automation Engineer to support software validation across prototype devices, builds, and release environments.
• This role will focus on designing and implementing automated test suites, improving test coverage, analyzing failures, and supporting release readiness.
• The engineer will work closely with senior engineers, PMs, and engineering leads.
• They will own day-to-day test suite design, implementation, execution, and reporting, while contributing to broader automation framework design and implementation with guidance from experienced engineers on the team.
• This role will be strongly supported by senior technical team members, who will provide guidance on automation strategy, framework architecture, prototype device workflows, and complex failure analysis.

Test Automation & Test Suite Development

• Design, implement, and maintain automated test suites for validating software across prototype devices, builds, and release environments.
• Build reusable automated tests covering functional, regression, smoke, performance, and release validation scenarios.
• Execute automated test plans, scenarios, scripts, and procedures.
• Analyze test results, investigate failures, reproduce issues, and provide clear diagnostic information to engineering teams.
• Ensure automated test coverage validates critical functionality, high-priority scenarios, and release-blocking risks.
• Develop and maintain test documentation, including test plans, procedures, scripts, execution reports, and coverage summaries.

Automation Framework Support

• Partner with senior engineers and the engineering team to contribute to scalable test automation frameworks.
• Assist with framework implementation, integration, and maintenance under the direction of senior technical leads.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous validation and rapid feedback.
• Contribute to automation best practices, framework design discussions, and test infrastructure improvements

Quality, Defect Tracking & Risk Reporting

• Identify, document, and escalate software defects, quality risks, and potential release blockers.
• Use bug tracking systems to document defects, provide reproduction steps, and track issue status.
• Monitor bug resolution efforts, verify fixes, and support issue closure.
• Maintain documentation of known defects, recurring failures, test gaps, and risk areas.
• Partner with project leadership to report automation coverage, test results, defect trends, and quality risks.
• Provide recommendations to improve test effectiveness, coverage, and product quality.

Release & Deployment Support

• Work with PMs and engineering leads to plan, coordinate, and execute automated validation for software releases.
• Support test scheduling and automation strategy in alignment with project scope, release milestones, and delivery dates.
• Execute release validation, regression testing, and post-release verification through automation.
• Provide actionable feedback on software stability, readiness, and outstanding risks.

Hardware & Environment Support

• Deploy, configure, and maintain prototype devices or test environments for automated test execution.
• Conduct automated smoke tests to confirm device, build, and environment readiness.
• Document hardware configurations, test environments, automation setups, and related issues.

Deliverables

• Automated test suites covering functional, regression, smoke, performance, and release validation scenarios.
• Contributions to scalable test automation frameworks and CI/CD test integration.
• Test execution reports, coverage metrics, defect reports, and release-readiness summaries.
• Documentation of test procedures, automation setup, hardware configurations, environment details, and identified issues.
• Risk assessments and quality improvement recommendations.
• Clear diagnostic information for reproduced failures, defect verification, and release-blocking issues.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5-7 years of relevant experience in software testing, test automation, or quality engineering.
• Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining automated test suites.
• Experience testing software across builds, devices, environments, or release pipelines.
• Experience with test documentation, including test plans, test scripts, test procedures, and test result reports.
• Ability to analyze test results, diagnose failures, and provide actionable recommendations.
• Experience documenting defects in bug tracking systems and collaborating with software developers through resolution.
• Familiarity with CI/CD test integration and automated validation workflows.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with engineering, PM, and project leadership teams.
• Android experience is a plus

• The ideal candidate will have a software engineering or software engineering in test background, with hands-on experience designing, implementing, and maintaining automated test suites.
• They should be comfortable writing code, debugging software issues, analyzing test failures, and working closely with engineering teams.
• Experience with test automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, prototype devices, release validation, and software quality processes is strongly preferred.

Salary Range:$70,000 - $80,000 Annually -Factors that may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
