About the Role:

• This role supports the engineering and supply chain teams by conducting technical alternate sourcing for electronic and mechanical components used in satellite and hardware systems.
• The engineer will analyze part specifications, identify equivalent alternatives, and validate their suitability through datasheet comparison and discussions with responsible engineers.
• The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, highly technical environment, can “dive deep” into component data, and independently drive tasks to completion.

Job Title: Component Engineer

Responsibilities

• Review existing components and identify viable alternatives using industry tools and databases (e.g., Arrow, Mouser, Digi-Key).
• Evaluate technical equivalency by comparing datasheets, pinouts, voltage tolerances, and other specifications.
• Communicate directly with manufacturers when clarification on specs or performance parameters is needed.
• Present vetted alternates to design engineers for final approval.
• Partner with supply chain and commodity managers to hand off approved alternates for sourcing and procurement.
• Maintain documentation of research, alternate part lists, and decisions for traceability.
• Proactively identify risks in component availability and propose mitigation options.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5 years of experience in hardware, electrical, or component engineering.
• Proven experience reading and interpreting component datasheets and applying that information to identify alternates.
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical component behavior (e.g., tolerances, fit/form/function).
• Ability to communicate effectively with engineers and procurement teams.
• Highly organized, resourceful, and capable of managing multiple parts and priorities independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with alternate part sourcing or component engineering in aerospace, communications, or high-reliability electronics.
• Familiarity with supplier databases and tools like Octopart, SiliconExpert, or equivalent.
• Understanding of component lifecycle management and risk assessment.
• Demonstrated ability to streamline or automate research and tracking processes.

Location: Onsite in Bellevue, WA

Salary Range: The salary for this position is between $100K/Year - $140K/Year. Factors that may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
