Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Community Support Specialist to join our CSTAR (Comprehensive Substance Treatment and Rehabilitation) program. This role provides integrated, holistic, community‑based support services to individuals participating in CSTAR, helping them build skills, access resources, and work toward long‑term recovery and stability.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Deliver services from a holistic perspective, incorporating coaching around the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.
- Provide skill-building with a focus on movement toward independent completion in areas such as:
- Daily living skills
- Employment/education readiness
- Symptom management
- Effective communication and relationships
- Budgeting and financial literacy
- Maintaining a residence or independent living environment
- Assist clients in developing personal support systems, including family, legal guardians, and recovery communities.
- Aid clients in accessing community resources including financial assistance, housing, food, emergency services, and more.
- Accompany clients to medical, behavioral health, or community appointments as needed.
- Follow up with clients regarding paperwork, forms, appointments, and other essential tasks.
- Contact and re-engage clients who have unexcused absences from CSTAR services.
- Maintain contact with hospitalized clients, participate in discharge planning, and communicate with involved care providers.
- Actively collaborate with the integrated team, including psychiatrists, primary care providers, specialists, nurses, peer support staff, and others.
- Communicate client progress, medication adherence, side effects, and overall wellness needs to the team.
- Incorporate input from integrated providers into the client’s Wellness Plan.
- Meet all service provision expectations based on client needs and organizational guidelines.
- Complete all documentation and required paperwork within designated timeframes.
- Collect and process urine drug screens following program procedures.

- Has a moderate to extensive knowledge of mental illness to include diagnosis, symptoms and correlating intervention.
- Possesses a basic knowledge of the mental health delivery system to include the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Substance use treatment facilities, Supported Community Living, and surrounding Administrative Agents.
- Has a working knowledge of complex comorbidities and the importance of integrated care.
- Maintains a professional appearance and dresses appropriately.
Degree and Licensure Requirements
- Meets at least one of the following:
- Meets the criteria for a qualified mental health professional.
- At least one (1) year of experience required if a non-human service Bachelor’s degree is the highest education obtained (a Bachelor’s degree in human service field is preferred).
- At least four (4) years of experience OR a combination of higher education and experience required if a High School/GED is the highest education obtained.
- At least two (2) years of experience OR a combination of higher education and experience required if an Associate’s degree is the highest education obtained.
(*If the degree is an Associate’s of Applied Science in Behavioral Health Support from an approved institution; then no additional experience is required).
