Position Summary:
Arthur Center is looking for a Billing Specialist who is detail-oriented, patient-centered, and comfortable navigating the full revenue cycle in a healthcare setting. In this role, you will manage claims submission, payment posting, patient account assistance, and collections follow-up playing a direct part in keeping our Financial Services department running smoothly so our clinical teams can stay focused on delivering care. Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Claims Submission & Revenue Cycle
- Submit electronic and paper claims including Medicaid and secondary claims accurately and on time.
- Monitor and follow up on claims that remain unpaid after 45-60 days.
- Assist with charge entry as needed to support clean claim submission.
- Prepare quarterly reviews of bad debt accounts for administration.
- Process accounts for collections in compliance with organizational policy.
Payment Posting & Account Management
- Post payments from commercial and personal accounts.
- Review credit balances and prepare refund requests in accordance with policy.
- Prepare daily deposits for submission to the bank.
- Prepare and distribute monthly statements for overdue accounts.
Patient & Payer Relations
- Provide customer service to patients regarding billing inquiries with professionalism and compassion.
- Assist self-pay patients with outstanding balances and available options. Communicate effectively with support staff, patients, and third-party payers
- - both over the phone and in person.
- Document all patient and payer interactions accurately in the customer account.
General Duties
- Participate in assigned committees.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Billing Supervisor or Revenue Director.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong attention to detail. Accuracy in claims and account management is something you take seriously.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain billing matters clearly to patients and payers alike.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the claims submission process and requirements for at least two major insurance carriers.
- Solid understanding of the complete revenue cycle including registration, charge entry, billing, and payment posting.
- Proficient in automated billing systems, computers, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
- Experience with PDS or similar practice management systems is a plus.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree with a focus on business or health information preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
- No licensure required.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed in a typical office environment with most of the time spent at a computer.
- Role involves regular communication with patients and payers by phone and in person.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
