Senior Controller

We are an early-stage AI tool development SaaS company with strong financial backing and are seeking a technical and hands-on Senior Controller to lead and scale our accounting and financial operations. This individual will play a critical role in building financial infrastructure, owning the full accounting function, and ensuring accuracy, scalability, and compliance across all financial reporting and revenue recognition processes.

The ideal candidate is a CPA with deep SaaS experience, strong ASC 606 expertise, and a proven track record of building or significantly enhancing ERP and budgeting systems in high-growth environments. This role requires both strategic leadership and willingness to operate at a detailed, hands-on level.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Leadership & Operations

• Own the full accounting function including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, equity accounting, and monthly close
• Act as both a strategic leader and hands-on operator, directly performing and overseeing accounting activities as needed
• Build, document, and enforce accounting policies, controls, and procedures to support scalability and audit readiness
• Manage and mentor a small accounting team, with potential to scale the function over time

Financial Systems & Infrastructure

• Lead the implementation and optimization of ERP and budgeting/forecasting systems
• Design scalable accounting workflows and reporting structures aligned with SaaS business models
• Partner with Engineering, IT, and external vendors to ensure systems integration and data integrity
• Continuously improve financial reporting automation and close efficiency

Revenue Recognition (SaaS Focus)

Own end-to-end revenue recognition under ASC 606

• Review and interpret complex customer contracts in partnership with Sales, Legal, and Deal Desk
• Evaluate deal structures (subscription, usage-based, hybrid, and professional services) to ensure accurate revenue treatment
• Oversee deferred revenue accounting, revenue waterfall analysis, and revenue forecasting
• Provide insight into revenue trends, bookings-to-revenue conversion, and contract performance

Financial Planning, Budgeting & Analysis Support

• Partner with FP&A to build and maintain annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and scenario models
• Monitor actuals vs. budget and provide detailed variance analysis and commentary
• Support cash forecasting and liquidity planning in coordination with Finance leadership

Financial Reporting & Compliance

• Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, ASC 606, and other applicable accounting standards
• Lead audit preparation and serve as primary liaison for external auditors
• Support tax compliance activities in coordination with external tax advisors

Strategic Business Partnership

• Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Legal, Product, and Operations to support deal structuring and financial decision-making
• Provide financial insight into pricing models, contract negotiations, and revenue implications

Qualifications

• Active CPA required
• 10–12 years of progressive accounting experience, with strong SaaS or subscription-based business exposure
• Prior experience as a Sr. Controller Leader in a high-growth or venture-backed environment
• Familiar with tax compliance and tax filing requirements for partnerships and C Corp
• Deep expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition, including complex contract analysis
• Strong technical accounting background with ability to interpret complex transactions independently
• Experience working closely with auditors and ensuring audit readiness in high-growth environments
• Hands-on experience implementing ERP systems and budgeting/forecasting tools
• Comfortable operating in a roll-up-your-sleeves environment (not purely oversight-based leadership) and able to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong communication skills with ability to translate technical accounting into business insights
