Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability

Position Overview

The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability provides strategic leadership and oversight for all aspects of teaching and learning across the district. This role ensures alignment of curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment systems to improve student outcomes and meet the accountability standards established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The position works closely with campus leaders to drive continuous improvement and academic excellence for all student groups.

 


 

Primary Responsibilities

Curriculum & Instruction

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a rigorous, TEKS-aligned curriculum across all content areas, including CTE programs.
  • Ensure instructional practices are research-based, data-driven, and aligned with both academic and career readiness standards.
  • Oversee curriculum adoption, instructional resources, and vertical alignment (PK–12), including integration of academic and CTE pathways.
  • Support principals in monitoring lesson design, instructional delivery, and student engagement across both academic and technician classrooms.

Career & Technical Education (CTE)

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all district CTE programs, ensuring alignment with workforce needs and student interests.
  • Expand and strengthen Programs of Study that lead to industry-based certifications and postsecondary opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal CTE requirements and reporting.
  • Collaborate with local businesses, colleges, and industry partners to develop meaningful work-based learning opportunities.
  • Monitor and improve College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) outcomes as part of the accountability system.
  • Oversee articulation agreements and dual credit as well as certification opportunities tied to high-demand careers.

 

Assessment & Accountability

  • Direct the district's accountability systems in alignment with TEA guidelines and the A–F accountability framework.
  • Oversee administration and analysis of state assessments, including State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness.
  • Lead data analysis processes to evaluate student performance, identify gaps, and implement targeted interventions.
  • Monitor campus performance in all accountability domains: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state accountability requirements.

Leadership & Campus Support

  • Supervise and evaluate curriculum and instructional staff, including directors, coordinators, and instructional coaches.
  • Provide leadership development and coaching for campus principals focused on instructional leadership.
  • Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) and district-wide professional development aligned to instructional and CTE priorities.
  • Collaborate with special program directors and coordinators to support diverse learners across academic and career pathways.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent to develop, implement, and refine the district's Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) system, including teacher designation processes, data validation, communication, and alignment to instructional priorities and student outcomes. 

Strategic Planning & Improvement

  • Lead the development and implementation of the District Improvement Plan (DIP) and support Campus Improvement Plans (CIPs), including CTE goals, as applicable.
  • Use data to drive strategic decision-making and resource allocation in collaboration with district leadership.
  • Coordinate initiatives that promote innovation in both academic instruction and career readiness.
  • Communicate progress toward district goals, including CTE and CCMR outcomes, to stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees and community.

Compliance & Policy

  • Ensure district adherence to state and federal laws related to curriculum, instruction, accountability, and CTE.
  • Maintain current knowledge of legislative changes affecting public education and workforce readiness in Texas.
  • Develop policies and procedures aligned with TEA expectations and CTE program requirements.
  • Oversee implementation and compliance of LASO grants and related initiatives.

 


 

 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education or related field (Doctorate preferred)
  • Valid Texas Superintendent or Principal certification
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of successful campus or district leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success in improving student achievement and accountability outcomes
  • Experience with CTE program development, CCMR indicators, or workforce partnerships preferred
  • Strong knowledge of TEKS, STAAR, and Texas accountability systems
