Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides on-site medical and clinical care to patients undergoing detoxification services. The NP is responsible for patient assessment, implementation of detox protocols, coordination with the Medical Director, and day-to-day clinical decision-making to ensure patient safety, compliance, and quality of care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, including substance use history, medical history, and withdrawal risk
- Monitor and manage withdrawal using approved protocols (e.g., CIWA, COWS)
- Order, adjust, and discontinue medications in accordance with scope of practice and Medical Director–approved standing orders
- Respond to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate clinical interventions
- Determine need for escalation of care, transfer, or physician consultation
- Work collaboratively with the Medical Director to implement detox protocols and treatment plans
- Communicate clinically relevant patient updates to the Medical Director as required
- Ensure all care is delivered within approved medical policies and procedures
- Provide clinical guidance to nursing staff during shifts
- Serve as the on-site clinical resource for complex or high-acuity cases
- Ensure nursing care aligns with medical orders and protocols
- Participate in shift handoffs and clinical rounds as needed
- Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation in the EMR
- Ensure medical records meet regulatory, accreditation, and payer standards
- Participate in audits, chart reviews, and quality improvement activities
- Adhere to all state, federal, and facility regulations governing detox services
- Promote patient safety and infection control standards
- Participate in incident review and clinical risk mitigation
- Support a structured, compliant, and patient-centered detox environment
- Full-time, on-site clinical role
- May include weekends, holidays, or on-call responsibilities as required by program operations
Required
- Active Nurse Practitioner license in the operating state
- National NP certification (FNP, AGNP, or equivalent)
- DEA registration (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experience in detox, addiction medicine, acute care, or behavioral health
- Strong knowledge of withdrawal management and medication protocols
- Prior experience in medical detox or residential treatment settings
- Familiarity with CIWA, COWS, and polysubstance withdrawal
- Experience working under physician-led protocol models
- Strong clinical judgment in fast-changing medical situations
- Clear, professional communication with physicians and nursing staff
- Comfort operating as the on-site clinical authority
- High attention to documentation and regulatory compliance
Salary : $105,000 - $135,000
